I had been using the inexpensive yellow float
for about year, it floats but is not very well made, always worried about losing
the camera with the thin mounting bracket. I have had other mounts break
due to thin plastic, just screwing the mount screw too tight can break the
mount. This float if very well made and sturdy. It is not all
yellow which hides it a bit in the water, but the tactile grip makes it much
more comfortable to hold onto. The plastic mount is made much firmer and the
camera fits snugly into it, not being squeezed to the breaking point. The
practical use of the tube for storage is the no-brainer. The tube will
hold money, small rolled up papers, a few keys, a small lighter and I cigar of
5.5 inches. It is watertight and will keep you action camera on top of
the water. Do not underestimate the grip, it makes holding a wet camera
in the water much more secure than a slippery non grip float. Putting them side
by side and the Sametop looks so much more substantial.
